Oh, The Sound of Music! How did this happened? I am not quite sure. My mother wanted me to try out for The Sound of Music the other day in Tracy and she didn't have me convinced so she said "Oh, just come along and once you get there you can decide if you want to try out or not." Bad decision on my part! I should have known better! Anyway, once we got there and went in, the lady at the desk asked "Is he going to be trying out?" And guess what my sweet mother said? She said that I was! So I thought "This isn't so bad. I'll just go and try out and then I'll just end up getting some small part anyway." So I did try out. We didn't find out until Friday what parts we had but then... the list came. At first I was excited because I didn't see my name on any of the minor parts so I thought that I didn't make it at all! But then I saw my name. "Ben Sahlstrom as Rolf Gruber"! "Oh man" I thought to myself and with a sigh I went upstairs. Today was the first practice and it went pretty good. I am not going to back out, although I thought about it. I am sure that it will be a good experience and I'll get to know some new people so that will be fun. Anyway, I'll have to get some pictures and post them later on!
Update 03-03-08
We are now about a month away from our production date which is April 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th and so far things have been running very smooth. I have been able to make it to all of the practices so I am right up to date on everything. I have about half of my lines very solidly memorized. Yesterday (Sunday March 2) we went through the complete first half of the play or Act I. It was the first time that I had to do my part with Leisl in front of everyone. We did that whole scene script-free! I still need to work on what I need to be doing with my body motions. Where I should be looking, standing, or making gestures. I think that that is referred to as choreography. Anyway, I think that it is all going to turn out quite well! I will try to update this a few more times before production weekend!

Leave it up to your mom to get you horn swaggled into something like this! Pretty funny! Isn't there a kissing scene between Rolf and the girl?

Yes, there was supposed to be a kissing scene but they re-wrote it a little bit so I don't think that I will have to do that. If they wouldn't have changed the script I would have been doing it though!

Wow Ben! I am totally impressed! I can hardly wait to see this play. So when you are singing, "I am seventeen, going on eighteen..." you actually will be telling the truth! How cool is that!!
